Join instructor John Ribble for this perfect introduction to the fundamentals of drawing, it’s media and surfaces, and it’s significance in all things artistic. Students in this class do not need any prior experience in drawing, just an open mind and willingness to learn.
Topics will include:
- Drawing as thinking: organization, planning, and establishing a purpose for drawing
- Emphasis on structural drawing
- Focusing on line, value, and form
All drawings in this class will be done from life, not photography. John will bring in several visually interesting objects to set up unique still life settings.
Supplies students should bring with them:
-Drawing pad size 18”x24” or larger.
-Variety of several 2B and 4B charcoal pencils
-Variety of erasers (be sure to include at least one rubber and one kneaded eraser)
John Ribble has worked as a professional graphic designer and art director, as well as a freelance illustrator, for over 30 years. He was a full time faculty member in the Graphic Design & Illustration Program at Madison Area Technical College for 32 years.
He has been a plein air landscape artist for the past 25 years and is represented by the Abel Contemporary Gallery in Stoughton, WI. John is married to artist Cynthia Quinn, and together they have two very creative daughters and two naughty corgis.
