
Justin Cody ’99
Justin Cody began his musical studies on piano at age 7, and by age 12, he was composing and performing solo concerts. At age 15 he was commissioned to compose a piece for the vocal jazz group Five by Design and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, and at age 16 he studied composition and piano at the Interlochen Arts Camp. Cody later earned a Bachelor of Music in composition and piano performance with a jazz emphasis from West Virginia University in 2003 where he also won the Young Artists Concerto Competition on piano. He studied composition with John Beall and piano with James Miltenberger. He is currently in his 18th year of serving on active duty in The United States Navy Band, a premiere Presidential Support Unit, where he is a Chief Musician, Unit Leader and Keyboard Instrumentalist for in the Navy’s premier contemporary entertainment ensemble, the Cruisers.
