A magical thing happens
when an artist finishes
a painting, print, sculpture, whatever:
No longer needed by the completed piece,
the artist is transformed into
just another member
of the audience.
Any idea he may have about the piece
is no better, no more authoritative
than anyone else’s.
Any idea he has about the piece
may be mistaken or misleading
and may change at any time.
You can’t trust a word he says.
