Position Title: Gallery Assistant
Status: Part-time, approximately 8 hrs/wk, $14/hour, variable work schedule, some evenings and weekends required including two Saturdays per month, non-exempt employee subject to overtime provisions of the FLSA.
Reports to: Executive Director and Gallery and Studio Manager
River Arts Inc. (RAI) in Prairie du Sac, WI is looking to hire a part-time Gallery Assistant to work alongside our Executive Director and Gallery and Studio Manager to support our events and retail gallery. The River Arts, Inc mission is to enrich, inspire and educate the community through the arts. The organization was chartered in 1997 to raise the capital to construct the River Arts Center, a performance and gallery venue for the Sauk Prairie community. Once construction was completed, RAI’s role has changed to one of an arts presenter and promoter. In 2011, RAI opened River Arts on Water, a retail art gallery that features over 30 local artists, and also serves as RAI’s main office headquarters and ticketing outlet. In 2017, RAI opened its Studio space which offers a variety of classes for all ages. Today, the organization hosts over 75 programs per year with the retail gallery open five days a week.
Primary Duties Include:
o Staffing the gallery (processing art and tickets sales, opening and closing store)
o Supporting art exhibit installs/uninstalls (patching, painting, and hanging exhibits)
o Assistance with major events (concerts, fundraisers, art fair, art classes, etc)
o Staffing/Supporting private rentals and classes
o Assistance with event set up (chairs, tables, cleaning surfaces, etc)
o General cleaning and organizing
o Special administrative projects as assigned by Executive Director or Gallery and Studio Manager
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
o A passion for and inquisitiveness about the arts
o Comfortable working solo
o Personable; good listening and communication skills.
o Computer literate
o Good organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
o Ability to participate in the physical elements of an event set up
