Learn the beautiful and practical art of basket weaving using natural seagrass! In this hands-on class, you’ll create a small, functional garlic basket — perfect for your kitchen or as a handmade gift.

We’ll cover the basics of weaving, including how to start and finish your basket, add new material as you go, and shape it into a form that’s both sturdy and beautiful. You’ll receive step-by-step instruction and a live demonstration to guide your process.

Students will choose their own thread colors to personalize their basket. You’ll learn to prepare the materials, begin the weaving process, and sew your basket into its final form.

To spark inspiration, you’ll see examples of different trims, styles, and color combinations — showcasing just how much you can do with this traditional technique. You’ll also go home with complete instructions so you can continue making more baskets on your own.

I started making these seagrass baskets a couple of years ago after discovering a pattern online, and I’m excited to share how rewarding and relaxing this craft can be!

The finished piece will be about 5″ w x 5″ h x 3″ deep.
